VAT Payment Service in Bahrain

As per the Bahrain VAT law and with the introduction of VAT in Bahrain, every taxable person in the kingdom should submit their VAT Returns under e-services through the website of the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR). A taxable person who is registered for VAT in Bahrain is obliged to charge VAT for the standard-rated supplies from their customers and pay it to the National Bureau for the purpose of Revenue upon filing the VAT return for each VAT period as and when it is due.

The Taxpayer shall deduct the Input VAT paid to his supplier if the same qualifies for the deduction. The difference of the Output VAT collected from the customer and Input VAT paid to various suppliers would be the amount payable/(refundable) to the National Bureau for Revenue.

In the kingdom of Bahrain, the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), in collaboration with the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) has now initiated a new service for taxpayers in the region allowing VAT payments that are to be made through the National Portal.

The new collaboration of the Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA), with the National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) for VAT bill payment service in Bahrain, will allow all the businesses of different variations, whosoever is eligible to charge VAT on their products and services to check, see and settle their VAT bills at ease and with convenience. The new launching of VAT bill payment service is a very user-friendly development that has been implemented in order to make a hassle-free, easy to use VAT bill payment service to the Taxpayers in the kingdom of Bahrain.

The VAT bill payment service that has been recently launched is in sync with the National Bureau for Revenue’s promise, dedication & commitment to bring forward or to introduce the  most advanced technologies and practices so that in the near future they can modernize and secure the entire VAT collection process in Bahrain.

How does the new VAT payment service work in Bahrain?

As you all know by now that the new VAT payment service in Bahrain is available through the National Portal, . This VAT payment service will allow taxpayers in the region to enter their bill and VAT account numbers, the taxpayer can view the due amounts to be paid in detail after entering the details.

The VAT payment service in Bahrain shall also allow entering the due amounts and the contact details to confirm the online payment. Once the payment is confirmed and the transaction is complete, a receipt can be printed or sent to the taxpayers through an email.

Other Payment Options available to pay VAT in Bahrain

  1. Online and Mobile Banking:

The tax-payer can access their banks online portal and use the Fawateer service and enter the required information as asked by the bank. The tax-payer can also view the payable amount by using the enquire bill option in the online portal.

  1. Benefit pay mobile application:

A taxpayer can also make the payment of VAT due through the benefits pay application. The VAT payer has to first download and activate the application in their smartphone. Then he can choose to make Fawateer payment and then select the NATIONAL BUREAU FOR REVENUE and enter the required information to make the VAT payment. The VAT payer can also view the VAT amount due by using the enquire bill option.

  1. Bank Branch:

The taxpayer can also make the payment directly through their bank branch. This can be done by visiting the branch and filling in the Fawateer form from the Bank or by submitting a written request signed by the authorized signatory mentioning the VAT amount due and the VAT bill number to the branch.
